Steelheads Even With Empires After Walk-Off Win
The Vacaville Steelheads got a strong game from starter Scott Lovely, but it was some clutch hitting that ultimately delivered the win.

The Steelheads took the 3-2 win over the Southern California Empires in Game 2 of the Division Championship Series in a 9th inning walk-off. The win capped off a fine outing for the right-handed Lovely. Lovely threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball in the win, which brought the Steelheads into a 1-1 tie in the best-of-5 series.

Mark Mastronardi was the walk-off hero for Vacaville. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Steelheads designated hitter hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.

Mastronardi attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."

The next game is set to be played for Friday, October 12th , 2007 at Empires Stadium in San Bernardino.
