The Vacaville Steelheads started the Division Series in style, downing the visiting Saskatoon Moose at Ballpark of Vacaville by a score of 6-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Steelheads right-hander Scott Lovely threw 9.0 innings of 7-hit ball.

Lovely pitched a complete game for Vacaville. The 34-year-old right-hander was charged with 1 run on 7 hits. He struck out 4 during his 125-pitch performance.

"We lost," Saskatoon manager Rick Schaunaman said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
