Capitals Suffer 5-2 Road Loss
|
The Detroit Chargers locked up a win at Chargers Field, knocking off the Ottawa Capitals, 5-2. On the mound for Detroit was left-hander Bobby Tineo. He played a major role in the triumph. In 8 innings, Tineo surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 12 and walking 4. He allowed 2 runs. Eric Taylor was credited with the save for Detroit, his 6th of the season.
Drew Brooks had a big solo home run for the Chargers in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Detroit leading 2-1 and the bases empty, he got a fastball from 34-year old right-handed pitcher Pete Block and swatted a home run to left. It was his 20th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Chargers ahead, 3-1.
Said Detroit manager Carlos Ventura: "At the end of the day, these guys have to perform between the lines, and I think they did."
The 7th-place Chargers sport a record of 38-46.
