Empires Thwart Aztecas, 4-3

The Mexico City Aztecas and Southern California Empires provided some drama for the home crowd.
Southern California registered a win at Empires Stadium by beating the Mexico City Aztecas, 4-3. Pitcher Allberto Menagem was one reason why the Empires triumphed. Menagem, now 8-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 9, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Mark Fielding got credit for the save for Southern California. It was his 15th of the year.
Had Ricky Bernal not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Bernal hit a 2-run single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Empires.
Southern California manager John Andrews commended his team for delivering "maximum effort."
The second-place Empires have won 4 in a row.
