Empires Earn 8-6 Home Win
The Southern California Empires overcame a good performance by Mexico City first baseman Vitaliano Brancati to knock off Mexico City, 8-6, at Empires Stadium. Brancati went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. James Guffey, now 3-2, was credited with the win in 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 2 and walking 0. Southern California has now won 3 in a row.

The Empires got a big hit from right fielder Riley King. In the bottom of the sixth, King smacked a bases-clearing double off Mexico City pitcher Nick Wilder. It was his 1st double of the season. Suddenly, the Empires were ahead, 8-6.

"If we play well, we'll win our share of games," said King. "The only team that can beat us is us."
