Drillers Rally Late to Nip Steelheads
|
The Vacaville Steelheads could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Johnny McGee into a win. Instead, the Edmonton Drillers prevailed, 4-3. McGee threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball. Corey Ferrari picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-3. He struck out 0 in 7 innings. Roberto Morales nailed down the save.
Edmonton won the game in part because of Kent Beaton. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Drillers ahead, 4-3. For the game, Beaton had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
After the game, Edmonton manager George Muller applauded the team's effort. "We put some good AB's together," he said.
Edmonton is now 27-37, while Vacaville is 40-24.
