The Ottawa Capitals had to overcome a big game from Winnipeg left fielder Dave Sewall to leave Capitals Stadium with a victory. And they did, winning, 6-5. Sewall slugged 2 home runs. The win was credited to Jim Purchase in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Simon Thornley took the loss. The save went to Chris Kaplan, his 8th this season.

Had Paul McCoy not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, McCoy hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Capitals.

"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," McCoy told the Ottawa Gazette.

After today's action, Ottawa sits at 23-21, while Winnipeg falls to 26-18.
