Aztecas Fall Short, 4-3, at Detroit
|
Detroit Chargers starter Jimmy Gubbels found his groove in his team's 4-3 win over the Mexico City Aztecas. The winner in relief was Eric Taylor. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 3-2. The Chargers raised their record to 15-27.
Jose Silva went 1 for 4, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Detroit. The two-time All-Star had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Luis Galdamez. It was his 8th RBI of the season.
After the game, Detroit manager Carlos Ventura applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
