Eagles Improve to 26-10 with 8-4 Win
|
The Newark Eagles defeated the Winnipeg Buffaloes, 8-4, at Eagles Park. Newark was led by 33-year old center fielder Mike Gubbins, who went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 3 times. The winning pitcher was Sid Brumbley. His record now stands at 7-2. The right-hander went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 4 hits for the Eagles. Oscar Loza sewed up the save, his 5th.
Juan Moctezuma had a big 3-run home run for the Eagles in the bottom of the third inning. With Newark trailing 3-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a splitter from Rhys Fox, who is tied for 9th in the SPBC in holds with 1, and punished it. The result was his 4th home run of the season, which put the Eagles on top, 4-3.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Gubbins.
The Eagles, now 26-10, have won 4 in a row.
