Jimmy O'Connor did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Winnipeg Buffaloes from being beaten, 5-4, to the Newark Eagles at Eagles Park. O'Connor was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. By defeating Winnipeg, the first-place Eagles improved to 23-10.
The Eagles were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 32-year old left fielder Dave Kowal landed a big blow. He turned a 0-2 sinker from Mario Estrada into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Eagles Park denizens into a frenzy and sent the Eagles home with a thrilling 5-4 win.
"It's great when the crowd gets into it," Kowal said.
