Newark Defeated by Allentown, 5-3
|
The Allentown Fleetwings faced a tough opponent in Newark pitcher David Waggoner, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Fleetwings Ballpark by a final score of 5-3. Waggoner went 8 innings and allowed 5 runs. Steve Post picked up the win, lifting his record to 1-1 on the season. He struck out 6 and walked 7 in 7 innings, while yielding 3 runs. Danny Teague sewed up the save, his 2nd.
In the bottom of the fifth, Allentown first baseman Ryan Rogers had a productive at-bat. With runners on 2nd and 3rd and one out, Rogers stroked a 2-run single to center. It made the score 5-3, Allentown. For the game, he went 1-3 with a walk. He drove in 2 runs.
Rogers attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
Newark, with the loss, is still a hardy 12-3.
