The Southern California Empires handed the Vacaville Steelheads a 5-3 defeat at Empires Stadium. Right Fielder Kevin Raith starred for Southern California. He was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Ricardo Mercado got the win, improving to 2-1. He worked 7 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. Southern California, with the win, is 6-3.

Raith had a game-changing home run in the bottom of the sixth. On a first pitch fastball from Scott Lovely, he banged a 3-run home run to right-center, giving the Empires a 4-3 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Raith.

"The bar for us is not a particular opponent, it's ourselves," said Southern California manager John Andrews.
