Lions Clobber Shamrocks, 11-2
|
The St. Louis Lions topped the Boston Shamrocks by a score of 11-2. Leading the way was center fielder Julius Walker. Walker belted 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the Lions. Phil Van Haren got the win, improving to 4-1. He held the Shamrocks to no runs on 4 hits over 7.2 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 3. The win gives St. Louis a season record of 20-11.
With St. Louis leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Walker hit a fastball from Chris Phillips for a 2-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Lions ahead, 4-0.
"The name of the game is scoring runs," Walker said. "We did a good job of that today."
