Whalen Is This Year's Premier Rookie Saturday, October 28th , 2006 Luke Whalen of the Houston Mavericks became a fan favorite over the course of the 2006 campaign. The phenomenal rookie racked up a 9-8 record as he reeled in the Western Circuit Rookie of the Year Award. In 22 starts, he tallied 165.1 innings, 165 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.05. Whalen is 25 years old and appears to be the real deal. Bigger and better things could be in store for him in the coming years. Nate Ramos of the Houston Mavericks finished second in voting, while Jeff Schroeder of the St. Louis Lions finished third. |
