15-K Masterpiece for Ortiz
Thursday, October 12th , 2006
Everything was working for Jose Ortiz at Blues Field. He had the perfect delivery. The ball was moving. The splitter was working.

In an unforgettable performance, the 35-year-old Ortiz fanned 15 Blues and sparked the 9-4 Washington Warriors victory over New York City. He left Blues hitters mumbling and muttering at the plate. And when he needed a strikeout, he got it.

"I don't know if there are many times that I've seen him throw better," said Washington manager Barry Lolicht. "His location and command were really something."

In addition to collecting 15 strikeouts over 9 innings, Ortiz allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in a superlative outing.

"I thought I'd make it easy on the guys today," Ortiz said with a smile.

This year, Ortiz has gone 9-7 with an ERA of 4.01 and has 161 strikeouts in 134.2 innings.
