Shamrocks Pin 5-2 Loss on Washington
|
The Boston Shamrocks topped the Washington Warriors, 5-2, at Shamrock Grounds. Boston second baseman Tim Wiegand was a spark plug for the offense. He was 4 for 4 with 4 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. John Maguire picked up the win with 7 innings of work. He allowed 2 runs on 11 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 10-10. Eric Kolbe closed out the game, earning his 10th save.
With Boston leading 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Wiegand hit a run-scoring single off Washington hurler Gerard Beairsto. It was the 39th hit of the season for Wiegand and put his team ahead, 4-2.
"If it's down the middle," said Wiegand, "you might as well hit it."
The Shamrocks move to 34-51 with the win, while the Warriors drop to 55-30.
