San Francisco Loss Spoils Terrific Game by Runfola
|
San Francisco catcher Ian Runfola pounded St. Louis Lions pitchers at Garibaldi's Grounds, but it was not enough to keep the Peanuts from falling, 11-9. Runfola went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice. David Enger, who finished 3rd in the EC in ERA with 2.70 in 2002, was the winner. He's now 3-5. The loser was Edwin Quevedo. Brent Farwell got credit for the save for St. Louis. It was his 11th of the year.
Byron Schroder, who is a two-time All-Star, contributed to the St. Louis win with a 3-run home run in the top of the first. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
"We've hit a rough patch right now," said San Francisco skipper Larry Link.
The winning streak has now reached 5 games for St. Louis.
