Boston wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Mario Sanchez, falling to the Chicago Blackhawks, 6-3. Sanchez threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The Blackhawks raised their record to 2-0.

Chicago got a clutch hit from Matt Johnson. The second baseman launched a 3-run home run in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a kill shot.

"We didn't play well enough to win," Boston skipper Frank Guinness said.
