Carranza on a Tear, Hits for Cycle
Wednesday, August 24th , 2005
Danny Carranza truly did it all at New Team Stadium today.
The Providence Grays catcher hit for the cycle -- collecting 1 single, 1 double, 1 triple and 1 home run -- as he paced his club to victory, 6-4 over the Oil City Oilers.
"You know that sweet sound you hear when you hit the ball just right? I heard that every time today," Carranza said later. "It was a heck of a feeling."
It was a game good enough for him to make a little history. He bombed Oil City pitching for 4 hits in 5 at-bats and his name will now go into the record books. Carranza also racked up 2 RBI and 1 run scored in the game.
Danny Carranza tripled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off John Oliver in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
This season Carranza has banged out 32 hits in 109 at-bats for a .294 average with 3 home runs. He is getting on base at a .342 pace and his totals also include 20 RBIs and 8 runs scored.
