Boston Loses Martinez for Year Wednesday, July 20th , 2005 The doctors have spoken and Juan Martinez of the Boston Battalion didn't like what he heard. The 24-year-old reliever is almost certainly gone for the rest of the year and depending on his progress could miss some of next season as well. Martinez sustained his season-ending injury during the Dallas Bulls game yesterday at Boston Field. He had to leave the game because he hurt himself while throwing a pitch. Today the Boston medical staff reported Martinez had a torn flexor tendon in his elbow and would be absent from the lineup for at least 10-11 months. In 11 relief appearances in 2005, Martinez has nailed down the victory 2 times for his club. In 11.2 innings he has fanned 3 batters and walked 4. His won-lost record is 0-0 with a 6.17 ERA. |
