Alpines Held Hitless by Williams Friday, September 9th , 2005 The Winnipeg Goldeyes relied on no-hit stuff from starter Travis Williams to defeat the Salt Lake City Alpines 5-0 at Goldeyes Park today. "It's quite a thrill," Williams told the media afterward. "This is a top-notch league. A no-hitter against any team in the league is something special. I can't believe I did it." To get his name logged in the Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit records, he stopped Salt Lake City cold and hitless, surrendering 4 walks and fanning 7 of the 30 batters he faced. Winnipeg manager Chris Vernon was in a jovial mode after the game, kidding with reporters that Williams "made managing easy today." "I didn't have hardly any decisions to make like I usually do," he said. "I didn't even have to come up with a pinch hitter." This year Williams has fashioned a 3-1 mark, 1.91 ERA and pitched 28.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .208 against him and he has logged 23 strikeouts.
