Capitals End Gartrell's Streak Friday, September 9th , 2005 The Newark Eagles lost to the Ottawa Capitals 4-3 today at Capitals Stadium, but perhaps the bigger news was the end of Mike Gartrell's 23-game hitting streak. The catcher went 0-for-3 on the day. "We felt if we could slow down Gartrell, we would win the game," Capitals manager Mike House explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down." This year Gartrell is hitting at a .301 pace with 8 home runs and 47 RBIs. He has played in 71 games and scored 53 times. |
