Carter Slugs 2 Home Runs, Empires Beat Goldeyes, 5-2
|
A 4-RBI performance from Isaiah Carter, who finished 5th in the SPBC in on-base percentage with .421 in 2002, helped the Southern California Empires beat the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 5-2. Allan Tiefel earned the win for Southern California. He lasted 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 7. With the win, he raised his record to 3-4. Tyler Gray was credited with the save for Southern California, his 1st of the season.
The game turned with one out in the bottom of the fourth when Carter, who finished 5th in the SPBC in on-base percentage with .421 in 2002, hit a 3-run home run. It propelled the Empires into the lead, 4-1.
"I think we all put in a good day's work," said Carter.
Their 27-37 record puts the Empires 6th in the West Division.
