Steelheads Best Empires in Pitching Duel
|
Pitcher Ricardo Mercado was sensational for the Vacaville Steelheads in his team's 2-1 triumph over the Southern California Empires. Mercado picked up the win, and it was well-earned. Mercado, now 2-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 0, and allowing 1 run. With the win, the Steelheads have a record of 10-10.
Jose Silva, the 34-year old center fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Silva contributed a run-scoring ground out in the top of the fifth inning to put Vacaville up, 2-1.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Mercado.
