Getting a good performance from designated hitter Jacob Branting, the Ottawa Capitals defeated the Newark Eagles, 9-3. Branting went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Capitals. Getting the save was T.J. Johnson, his 1st. The Capitals, now 3-9, have not found much traction so far in 2005.

Ottawa used a well-timed hit by Marc Pruitt to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Capitals ahead, 5-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"We'll put that win in the can," said Pruitt, "and go after the next one."
