The Newark Eagles beat the Ottawa Capitals, 4-3, at Eagles Park. The Eagles got a fine performance from catcher Mike Gartrell, who went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs. Ottawa, with the loss, is 2-7.

Nate Spalding aided the Newark cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the first baseman went 1 for 3 with a walk and was hit by a pitch.

"I was a little disappointed," said Ottawa manager Mike House. "We could've and should've scored more runs."
