Samples Retires from Baseball, Eyeing Senate Run Monday, October 11th , 2004 Liberty reliever Travis Samples announced today that he is retiring from baseball. What he does next is still anyone's guess. The popular Samples has been rumored to be considering a run for political office, namely U.S. senator. "He hasn't told me what his plans are," said Manhattan manager Elijah Jackson. "I know he has an interest in politics, but he hasn't tipped his hand yet, either way." Asked whether he thought Samples was qualified to hold public office, "Jackson replied, "Definitely. I think he'd be a great senator. He has exactly the kind of leadership skills this country needs." Associates say Samples will make a decision on his future in the next few weeks. |
