Manchester Sits Atop East Division Monday, September 13th , 2004 The city of Manchester is buzzing tonight as their hometown club has captured a division title. The Manchester Monarchs officially laid claim to the East Division crown today and will now turn attention to preparing for a run at the franchise's 1st Amateur Circuit Cup. "We may have been far ahead in the standings, but you never take anything for granted until it's official," said starting pitcher Tommy Martin. "I've seen too many strange things happen in baseball to ever assume the playoffs is a guarantee." But it now is in fact a guarantee for the club, which currently has a 46-29 record and has easily stood out as the class of the division this season. |
