Berard Sharp in 3-0 Shutout Monday, July 19th , 2004 The Providence Grays did little to support starter Howard Berard against the Brooklyn Atlantics, but it turned out he didn't need the help. The right-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Atlantics, striking out 5 and surrendering 5 hits. The performance from Berard allowed Providence to escape with the 3-0 win despite an anemic offense. "Nobody came to me and said 'Howard, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Berard told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it." Berard has gone 3-2 this season with an ERA of 2.02 and 28 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched. Other clubs are hitting .247 against him.
