Eagles Make Blues 6-5 Losers
|
The Newark Eagles overcame a fine performance by Quebec City left fielder Josh McKee to defeat the Blues, 6-5, at Quebec City Grounds. McKee was 2 for 2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Pat Purcell came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 4-0. C.J. Knight closed the door for Newark, picking up his 3rd save of the year.
Newark pinch hitter Willie Aranda contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a run-scoring single. It was his 19th hit of the season and put the Eagles ahead, 6-5.
"You can never predict what'll happen," Aranda said. "That's why you play the game."
With the win, the Eagles hiked their record to 43-42.
