Eagles Park was the site of a tense game between the Ottawa Capitals and Newark Eagles.
Bryan Largent pitched well, but his team, the Ottawa Capitals, still dropped a 3-1 decision to the Newark Eagles at Eagles Park. Pat Purcell earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 6 hits in 4.1 innings. His record is now 3-0.
Newark left fielder Eric Fales contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With two down, he hit a sinker into right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 60th hit of the season and put the Eagles ahead, 1-0.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Fales. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The loss makes Ottawa 35-46.
