Empires Turn Away Eagles, 3-1
|
Led by Kevin Raith, the Southern California Empires defeated the Newark Eagles, 3-1. Raith went 2-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times for the Empires. The Empires move to 12-20 with the win, while the Eagles drop to 13-19.
It could have been a different outcome for Southern California, had it not been for Clay Barnes, the 28-year old catcher . Barnes contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning to put Southern California up, 1-0.
Afterward, Empires manager Doug Stucker was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
