Southern California got a terrific performance from pitcher Rich Geitgey, but it wasn't enough to beat the Vacaville Steelheads. Vacaville won the Ballpark of Vacaville contest, 6-4. Geitgey threw 7.2 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. The Steelheads go to 13-10, putting them third in the West Division.

Vacaville won the game in the bottom of the 16th inning. With no outs and Will Neil on the mound for Southern California, third baseman Jeff Franco hit a dramatic 2-run home run, bringing Steelheads fans to their feet.

"We'll enjoy this win for now, but it's just one," Franco told local reporters. "We've got to keep it going."
