Goldeyes Win Thriller, 2-1
|
The Winnipeg Goldeyes had to overcome a good performance from Southern California pitcher Jamie Stewart to claim a 2-1 win at Goldeyes Park. Stewart went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Reliever Oliver McPeak picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Sid Brumbley took the loss. The Empires fall to 5-8 and continue their rocky start to the 2004 season.
The Goldeyes were down to their final out when third baseman Bob Brown turned a 2-1 splitter from Sid Brumbley into a 2-run single. The walk-off single made the Goldeyes Park crowd go wild.
"We faced good pitching and still got it done," said Brown.
