Steelheads Fall to Fleetwings, 5-3
|
The Allentown Fleetwings knocked off the Vacaville Steelheads, 5-3, at Fleetwings Ballpark. Mike Williams was a big reason Allentown won. The left fielder went 3 for 4 with a triple and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Alex Diaz, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Steelheads to 2 runs on 6 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Steve Turnbull sewed up the save, his 1st.
Williams contributed a big hit, a 2-run triple, for Allentown in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Williams took a sinker from Jim Brink and stroked the triple to right-center. His 2nd triple of the season allowed the Fleetwings to leap in front, 3-2.
"I'm just trying to make good contact," said Williams, "one at-bat at a time."
The Fleetwings have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 1st win in 12 games.
