League Gives McMenemy and Diaz 5-Game Suspensions Sunday, August 24th , 2003 Providence's Fletcher McMenemy and Brooklyn's Alex Diaz have been handed 5-game suspensions for their parts in yesterday's upheaval at Providence Field. The teams were notified today that the suspensions would go into effect immediately. According to the league commissioner McMenemy and Diaz provoked and incited the brawl and bore the blame for what transpired. This season McMenemy has hit at a .298 clip with 13 RBIs, 1 home runs and 13 runs scored. Diaz has made 7 starts this season, posting 2 wins and 4 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .264 against him and he has 38 strikeouts in 41.1 innings with a 4.14 ERA. |
