Schaefer on a Hot Streak, ABC Player of the Week Monday, July 21st , 2003 Mike Schaefer must have thought he was dreaming. First he went on an exceptional week-long batting spree, bashing the ball at a .450 clip, then the El Paso right fielder finds out he has been chosen the league's best performer and gets the ABC Player of the Week Award. He told BNN reporters in the postgame, "It was a great week for me. I could see the ball so well. Plus some of the balls seemed to have good eyes, too." For the week Schaefer batted .450 (9-for-20) with 4 home runs and 6 RBIs. Schaefer has a .346 average and a .407 on-base percentage for the year. He has picked up 18 hits, 4 home runs and driven in 10 runs. |
