Wirtz Named Top Reliever for PBC Sunday, October 19th , 2003 They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks, but in the case of Ruben Wirtz of the Chicago Blackhawks, you don't have to - his old tricks worked just fine in 2003. The 37-year-old veteran turned in a sparkling performance and has won the Professional Baseball Circuit Reliever of the Year Award. He captured the award with 18 saves in 44 relief appearances, 68 strikeouts and 19 walks in 55 innings. He put up a record of 4-3 to go with his 1.15 ERA. Gerard Beairsto of the Washington Warriors finished second in voting, while Luis Perez of the Houston Mavericks finished third. |
