Shamrocks Turn Back Denver, 3-1
|
The Boston Shamrocks racked up a win at Cutter's Cove, bumping off the Denver Cutthroats, 3-1. Tony Sunderman, who started for Boston, pitched effectively for his team. In 6.1 innings, Sunderman surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Steve Palermo sewed up the save, his 1st.
Boston relied on the hitting of Howie Park to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the third inning to put the Shamrocks on top, 2-0. For the game, Park had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Boston manager Dave Galindo. "It's usually not just one thing."
The Cutthroats fall to 5-10 and continue their lackluster start in 2003.
