Andy Gugler was a major factor in the 7-2 Southern California win over Edmonton. The Empires catcher was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Southern California reliever William Conant picked up the win, upping his record to 3-7. Jim Purchase shouldered the loss. The Empires, at 27-38, sit in 5th place in the West Division.

Southern California used the timely hitting of Bubba Redman to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Empires on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.

"It was a solid team effort," said Redman after the game.
