Hamilton Park hosted a real pitchers' duel.
In a low-scoring game between the Hamilton Tigers and the Quebec City Blues, pitcher Jonathon Kays was masterful on the mound. The Hamilton right-hander spearheaded his team's 2-1 win. The winner was Hamilton reliever Cory Murnane, now 3-0. The loser was Ryan Hunter.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder David Cruz came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Quebec City pitcher Ryan Hunter, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hamilton on top, 2-1.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Kays.
Hamilton is now 11-10. Quebec City is 11-10.
