Empires Turn Back Blues, 7-6

The Southern California Empires beat the Quebec City Blues, 7-6, at Empires Stadium. The win was due in part to center fielder Jose Silva, who was 2-3 with 2 singles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 4 runs. Eric Kolbe closed the game out for Southern California, earning his 2nd save. The Empires, with just their 4th win so far in 2003, have yet to catch fire.
David Casey dealt the Blues a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with the bases loaded and Southern California leading 1-0, Casey, who is tied for 2nd in the SPBC in bases on balls with 9, hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single.
Casey told the Southern California Observer: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
