Purchase Named Top Reliever for SPBC Wednesday, October 16th , 2002 Jim Purchase of the Winnipeg Goldeyes has been named the winner of the 2002 Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit Reliever of the Year Award. The award comes at an opportune time too, as the 33-year-old is an impending free agent. "You always hope to have this type of year every year, but it's pretty special to have it before I go to free agency, if that happens," he said. On the year, the relief ace had a 0.65 ERA over 41.1 innings of work. He made 32 relief appearances and had 4 saves, 34 strikeouts, 10 walks and a record of 4-1. Opponent batters hit only .177 against him. He received 12 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Brent Farwell of the Calgary Caracals finished second in voting, while Ryan Hunter of the Albany Senators finished third.
