Allentown-Vacaville Swap: Wojt for Vanover Wednesday, September 4th , 2002 You can't always get what you want, but sometimes you find a deal anyway. The Baseball News Network is reporting that Allentown and Vacaville have made a swap with 26-year old LF Matt Wojt being shipped to the Steelheads and in return the Fleetwings would get 24-year old LHP Alex Ruiz and 24-year old LF Josh Vanover. Allentown general manager Vinny Roberts said the two sides were close to a blockbuster trade before agreeing upon a smaller scale transaction. "This is just a bit of housekeeping compared to what we wanted to do," he said. "I won't name names, but the potential deal we were close to making would have certainly grabbed some headlines." A source inside the Allentown organization said the two sides might not be done dealing, and another transaction could be in the works. Wojt is currently hitting at a .336 pace with 8 home runs and 52 RBIs. This year Vanover has batted at a .344 pace with 22 hits, 2 home runs, 12 RBIs and scored 9 times. |
