Best PBC Reliever Named
Tuesday, October 15th , 2002
The St. Louis Lions will no doubt have to pony up some big cash if they want to keep star reliever Zack Doyle.
That's because the 31-year-old today was named the Professional Baseball Circuit Reliever of the Year Award winner for 2002.
As it stands now, he's heading for free agency unless his team can put forward an extension offer. As of yet, there's been no word about an impending deal.
Doyle captured the award with a 1.55 ERA this season over 46.1 innings of work. He made 37 relief appearances and had 20 saves, 52 strikeouts, 8 walks and a record of 2 and 1. Opposing hitters managed only a .191 against him.
Dal-soo Kim of the Detroit Motors finished second in voting, while Ruben Wirtz of the Chicago Blackhawks finished third.
