Joe Ivie never let the Caracals get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Empires to a win, 3-1. Ivie, the winner, moves to 7-7. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 1 walk. The save went to Mike Gaston, number 4 for him.

Bill Cosentino, the 31-year old catcher , had a direct impact on the outcome. Cosentino contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put Southern California up, 1-0.

"We need to keep playing good baseball," Cosentino told the Southern California Times.
