The first-place Newark Eagles took on the Edmonton Drillers in front of a spirited crowd.

Newark picked up a win at Eagles Park, bumping off the Edmonton Drillers, 4-1. Pitcher Lance Beyer was a major reason the Eagles emerged victorious. Newark goes to 48-22. The win puts them 3½ games up in their division.

Newark first baseman Cory Hoyt contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a sinker into center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 22nd hit of the season and put the Eagles ahead, 2-1.

"For the most part, I made good pitches when I needed to," said Beyer.
