Empires Lose By a Run at Newark, 5-4
|
The Newark Eagles did just enough to sneak past the Southern California Empires, 5-4, at Eagles Park. Newark pitcher Adam Hall, in particular, had a standout performance. Hall, the winner, moves to 5-2. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 3 walks. Izaiah Sanders picked up the save, his 1st.
The Eagles got an important contribution from third baseman Ryan Harvey, who in the bottom of the first punched a 1-0 changeup into left for a 3-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season and put the Eagles ahead, 5-0.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Newark manager Steve LaPorte. "It's usually not just one thing."
Newark leads the East Division by 6 games.
