Ottawa turned a good effort from starter Carlos Fonseca into a win over the Southern California Empires at Capitals Stadium. The final score was 4-1. The winning pitcher was Fonseca, now 1-3. He tossed 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. Ryan Robinson earned the save, his 5th.
Mike Deering hit a 2-run triple off Allberto Menagem in the bottom of the sixth, which put the Capitals in front, 2-1. Deering had 1 walk, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 1 for 3.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Ottawa manager Mike House. "It's usually not just one thing."
At 15-25, the Capitals are currently 5th in the East Division.
