Mavericks Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Blues, 8-7
The Houston Mavericks topped the New York City Blues by a score of 8-7. Leading the way was third baseman Matt Bevan. Bevan went 2-4 with 2 triples. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Mavericks. Houston pitcher Carlos Ventura got the win. He's now 2-1. John Schukraft was tagged with the loss. Jack Murphy picked up the save for Houston, his 10th of the year.

Bevan had a game-changing triple in the top of the eighth. On a 1-2 splitter from George Eby, he banged a 2-run triple to right-center, giving the Mavericks a 8-7 lead. It was the 9th triple of the year for Bevan.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Houston skipper Kevin Read.

At 36-21, Houston is in first place in the West Division.
